Monica Proenca is a distinguished dance choreographer, teacher, and coach with an M.A. in Dance Pedagogy for Modern and Contemporary Dance, specializing in Contemporary Ballet. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she began her dance education early and is a graduate of the San Francisco School of the Arts in the United States. Her professional journey has taken her around the world, performing classical and contemporary pieces in numerous independent productions.
As a choreographer, Monica has crafted dance works for film, television, and international dance companies. She has taught and choreographed at esteemed institutions such as the LINES Ballet Training Program in San Francisco; Nordhausen Ballet and Schwerin Ballet in Germany; Kayzer Ballet in Portugal; and Brazil's Divina Dança and São Paulo Companhia de Dança. Her expertise has also led her to engagements in Spain, Italy, Japan, the U.S.A., Germany, and across Brazil and Canada.
Monica's keen eye for excellence in dance has earned her invitations to serve as an adjudicator at several prestigious dance competitions. Notably, she has been a jury member for the Brasília International Dance Seminar in Brazil, the Global Dance Challenge in Canada, and the Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition in Paraguay.
In recognition of her contributions to arts and culture, she was nominated for the 4th Annual Inspirational Latin American Awards in Vancouver.
In the film industry, Monica produced the short film "Strings for 2" and was the choreographer for "Dance First" by Dunbar Underground Productions. She also choreographed and rehearsed multiple dance sequences for feature films including "A Christmas Proposal" (CBS/Netflix) and "Center Stage: On Pointe" (Sony Pictures/Lifetime Network).
